What Are Google Workspace Users: Getting Started
Understand exactly what a “user” is in Google Workspace and how you are billed for them.
There are a couple of ways to delete users, but we’ll start with the fastest way to delete a single user.
Go to the Admin console https://admin.google.com and under Users, click Delete a user.
Type the user’s name or email address and click it when suggested below.
Now the user is selected, and you can click PROCEED.
If you’re not familiar with this information, it’s best to go over it quickly. The key points:
If you select the Transfer option, you can transfer specific kinds of data before deleting the user. To transfer data, you’ll have to choose another user in the domain to move it to – click Search for a user and type their email address or name to select them. Then check the box for each type of data you want to transfer.
For the Drive and Docs data, note that it only transfers files the user is the owner of and that the new owner must have enough space in Drive to receive the files. Also, note that this feature only transfers Drive, Calendar, and Google+ data.
If you’re interested in Gmail data, you can export the user’s emails to your computer or Google Drive or transfer them to another user’s mailbox.
Alternatively, just select Don’t transfer data to delete the user immediately.
Click DELETE USER to proceed.
If you choose to transfer data, you will get this confirmation message. While the transfer is still in progress, the user’s account will get suspended temporarily. You’ll get an email when the process finishes and the user gets deleted.
Another way to delete users is to go to the users list. Go to the Admin console https://admin.google.com and click Users or Manage.
Hover over a user in the list, then click More on its right and select Delete user.
You can remove multiple users at once by checking the boxes to their left and then clicking More > Delete selected users on top.
You can also get to a user’s settings and info page by typing their name or email address in the search bar on top. Then click the result suggested below. After that, you will see the option to delete the user on the left side of the page.
