Manage Directory Contact Sharing Settings for Users in Google Workspace
Control if the contact info of all users is visible to everyone in the Directory contacts group, and what kind of information is available there.
You can control whether Google Workspace users can change their name, profile picture, gender, birthday, or work location or not.
This also affects the administrator when trying to change a user’s profile picture, and must be enabled for it to work.
In the Google Admin console at https://admin.google.com, click the menu icon next to the Google Admin logo in the top left. Hover over Directory and select Directory settings.
Click the Profile editing section.
A user’s Name gets displayed in all Google Workspace services. When a user edits their name, it overrides the name you have given them in your Admin console. Only the user’s settings and information page in the Google Admin console shows the name you gave them.
If you uncheck Name, all names get reverted to the admin-set names.
Checking Photo allows users to edit their profile pictures. They can do that in their Google Account settings at https://myaccount.google.com/, YouTube, or Google+. If you add profile pictures for your users, any profile pictures they add on their own will override yours.
Check the Gender box to allow users to edit their gender in their Google Account settings at https://myaccount.google.com/.
Check Birthday to allow users to edit their birthday in their Google Account settings at https://myaccount.google.com/. Suppose a user enters a birthday, indicating they’re under 13. In that case, their account gets suspended automatically. You need to contact the Google Workspace support team to restore it.
Check Work location to allow users to specify their work location in Google Calendar, as shown here.
After any updates, click SAVE. Note that changes may require up to 24 hours to take effect.
