In this section, we teach you how to use Google Vault to ensure that you will retain your users’ data even if they delete it from their accounts. You will also see how to access, search and export data.

Allow a user partial or full access to Google Vault.
Review the actions of other users with access to Vault.
Add Google Vault to a Business Starter account.
Assign Vault licenses to archive user data.
Disable user data archiving by removing Vault licenses.
Cancel your Google Vault subscription.

Create a new matter to use for Vault actions.
Grant someone access to a matter.
Once an investigation is complete, its related matter can be closed.
Reopen a closed matter, or delete it permanently.
Retention rules and holds are ways to ensure that Vault will archive Google Workspace data.
The default retention rules have a lower priority than custom retention rules.
Create a custom retention rule to archive Gmail data.
Create a custom retention rule to archive Google Drive data.
Create a custom retention rule to archive Google Groups data.
Specify if Meet video recordings and Google Sites files will be affected by your Drive retention rules.
Create a custom retention rule to archive Google Chat data.

Place a hold on Gmail data.
Place a hold on Google Drive data.
Place a hold on Google Groups data.
