If you forget the password of your Google Workspace account, Google can help you recover it.

How to recover your forgotten admin password step-by-step with images

Step 1

First, open a private browsing window. If you don’t know how to do this, click the name of the browser you are currently using and follow the steps in the link that opens:

In the private browsing window, go to https://accounts.google.com/signin/recovery, type your email address and click Next.

Step 2

Enter the last password you remember and click Next. It’s ok if you don’t remember anything, just type anything and click Next.

Step 3

Google will send a verification code to your backup phone number. Click Send.

If you have access to this phone number and clicked Send, click here for the next steps.

If you don’t have access to your phone, click I don’t have my phone and keep following the steps below.

Follow this step only if you didn't have access to your phone in the previous step

You’ll be asked if you can receive an email at your backup email address. If you don’t see the email, give it a bit, it may not arrive immediately. Also, it may go to Spam or Trash somehow. You can also check the All Mail folder.

If you can’t access your backup email address, click Try another way.

Follow this step only if you didn't have access to your recovery email in the previous step

Since none of your backup methods were available, you can click Contact support to request assistance from the Google Workspace support team.

Last resort: Contact support

The following form opens up, where you are asked for some details to open a support ticket to help you recover your password. Then wait for the Google Workspace team to get back to you. This shouldn’t take long.

Step 7

A text message with a verification code gets sent to your phone number. Check your phone and enter the code, then click Next.

Step 8

Thanks to you entering the code, Google trusts that you are the owner of the account and lets you update your password. Type the new password twice and click Save password.

Step 9

After signing in, you’ll see the Security checkup right away. Click the options to display more info. Click Password Checkup to check for any potential password issues, or click Continue to get signed in.

Step 10

Google will ask you to check the security of passwords saved to your account. Click Check passwords.

Step 11

First, type your new password and click Next.

Step 12

Now you can see if Google is aware of any compromised passwords. You can also see if any passwords have been reused or are too weak. Click the notifications for more details.

Step 13

Having clicked the reused passwords info, you can see which passwords have been reused.

You can click Change password or click the three dots to the right of the password and select among the View password, Update saved password, or Delete password options.
