Add a Google Sites Website to Your Domain
Make your Google Sites website accessible at your domain name address.
This feature is not available during the Google Workspace trial period.
You can make a Google Sites website accessible at your domain by following these steps.
In the Admin console at https://admin.google.com, click the Apps icon.
Select Google Workspace.
Click Sites. Make sure not to check the box to its left; just click the service.
Click the Custom URL section.
Click the + icon: Add custom URL.
This tutorial only deals with the New Sites version because it is better than Classic Sites. Select New Sites and click CONTINUE.
Open your Google Sites website in editing mode, from Google Sites https://sites.google.com/new or Google Drive https://drive.google.com.
Click the little arrow to the right of the Publish button and select Publish settings.
If you haven’t published it at all yet, click the Publish button.
Make a note of the Web address.
In this case, the site’s full address is https://sites.google.com/superadminhelper.com/example.
In the Google Workspace Admin console settings, enter the full web address without the https:// in front and click CONTINUE.
Type a subdomain in front of your main domain and click CONTINUE. We recommend using “www” as your subdomain.
Later, you will configure your site to be displayed at the naked domain, which in this example is just superadminhelper.com, without the www subdomain in front.
Google tells you what you need to do to get your site to show up at the www.domain URL. Click ADD CUSTOM URL and then follow these steps. Check below for an example of what you need to do.
The steps may differ depending on your hosting provider. Still, the general idea is that you need to add a CNAME record that points www.yourdomain to ghs.googlehosted.com in your domain’s DNS settings at the hosting provider.
If you’re not sure how to do this, you can search Google for “add cname –hosting name–”. Alternatively, contact the hosting’s support team for assistance.
In this example, this is how adding the record looks. After you’ve saved the record at your hosting provider, it may take up to 24 hours before you can access your site at www.yourdomain.
The next step is to set up a redirect from www.yourdomain to yourdomain for everyone to access it more easily. No one likes to type www.
To the right of your primary domain, under Actions, click the Change redirect link.
Type www and click SAVE.
Again, Google tells you what you need to do to get your domain to redirect.
Now you need to update your A records at the hosting provider. First, remove any already existing A records in your DNS settings and then add four records pointing to these IP addresses:
You can click I’VE COMPLETED THESE STEPS now and add the records later; it doesn’t make any difference.
Here is how adding the records may look. It’s the same as with the CNAME.
You can look for a step-by-step guide on Google Search or contact your hosting provider’s support team for assistance with adding the records.
Note that it may take up to 24 hours after adding and saving the records before your domain starts redirecting.
