How to Control Adding Users and Groups to Google Currents Communities

Quick and easy-to-follow guide for Google Workspace administrators

You can control who can add users and groups to Google Currents communities without sending an invitation.
To add or be added, the user must be in the domain or organization that has Google Currents and Groups for Business turned on – see how to turn core services on or off here.

How to control direct adding to Google Currents communities step-by-step with images

Step 1

In the Admin console at https://admin.google.com, click the Apps icon.

Step 2

Select Google Workspace.

Step 3

Click Currents. Make sure not to check the box to its left; just click the service.

Step 4

Select the Advanced settings section.

Step 5

Select Adding users directly.

Step 6

Check the box to Allow every community moderator, not just those with the batch-add privilege, to add any user directly to their community, including Groups in your domain.

Users with a custom admin role with the Services > Google Currents > Batch-add user groups to communities privilege enabled can always do this, even without this setting enabled.

Click SAVE after updating the setting. Note that the changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect.
