How to Allow Chat Webhooks in Google Workspace

Quick and easy-to-follow guide for Google Workspace administrators

What are incoming webhooks

Webhooks in Google Chat https://chat.google.com make it possible to send automated messages to rooms or direct messages without bots.

For example, a developer can build an application to track the status of specific servers and notify users if a server goes down so that they can act right away.

They are a simple way to create automated workflows by eliminating the need to write an entire bot and are much easier to set up. Webhooks send messages, but they can’t read chat messages as bots can. They can be created only by users in your organization.

You can learn more about incoming webhooks at https://developers.google.com/hangouts/chat/how-tos/webhooks.
