Open your site in editing mode by double-clicking it in Google Drive at https://drive.google.com or Google Sites at https://sites.google.com/new.

Then under Insert in the top right, click Images and choose Upload or Select.

Click the Upload button to upload a file from your computer or click the Select button to pick an image from Google Drive, add one from a URL, search Google images or Google Photos.

The image gets added to a new section. While it is selected, you see a few options above it.

First, on the left, you have Crop, which lets you crop the image. Instead of clicking this icon, you can also press Enter, which is the keyboard shortcut.

Then you have Uncrop, which reverses cropping.

Next, there’s Insert link, which lets you add a link to the image, so you can send people to another page once they click your image.

Then there’s the three dots icon (More editing options) with three options:

  • Replace image – lets you choose another image
  • Add alt text – screen readers access alt text for people who might have trouble seeing your content. It’s also very important for SEO.
  • Add caption – lets you add a caption to the image. You can move the caption above the image or to the side.
