How to Unshare Google Drive Files and Folders

Follow these steps to unshare Google Drive items.

When you unshare a folder

Unsharing a folder also unshares all files within the folder.

How to unshare Google Drive files and folders step-by-step with images

Step 1

To unshare, go to Google Drive at https://drive.google.com and right-click a file or folder, then select Share.

Step 2

You can also select and unshare multiple items simultaneously:

Left-click and hold down the mouse button over empty space.
Drag your cursor to form a rectangle over all items you want to unshare.
Release the left mouse button, selecting all items below the rectangle, indicated by the blue highlight.

Alternatively, you can select multiple items this way:

Left-click to select the first item you want to unshare.
Hold down the SHIFT key.
Left-click to select the last item you wish to unshare.
Items in-between are selected as well, indicated by the blue highlight.

Step 3

Right-click over the selected items and choose Share.

Step 4

Under Share with people and groups, you will see a list of everyone who has been granted sharing access to the item(s) – in the image above, [email protected]

Click their access level button to the right of their name/email and select Remove to unshare and cut off their access.

This will remove the shared item(s) from their Google Drive’s Shared with me section.
