In Google Chrome, click the menu (the three dots icon) in the top right corner. Then select Settings.
Select Privacy and security on the left.
Then click Site settings.
Click the down arrow to the right of Additional permissions.
Click Handlers.
Ensure that the button Allow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols is colored blue and switched to the right.
Now go to Gmail in your browser, and you’ll see the Service handler icon on the top right. It is right next to the star in this image.
Select Allow and click Done.
When you go to the Handlers settings, you will see that mail.google.com is the default handler for email.
