How to Archive, Mute, and Snooze in Gmail

Quick and easy-to-follow guide for Gmail users

What happens when you Archive an email in Gmail

  • When you archive an email, you remove the Inbox label from it
  • Then you can only find the email by looking it up via the search bar or checking the All Mail label.
  • If you have applied another label to the archived email, you can also find it there.
  • Archived emails come back to your Inbox if someone replies to them.

What happens when you Mute an email in Gmail

  • Like Archive, Mute removes the Inbox label.
  • If you have applied another label to a muted email, you can find it there.
  • Otherwise, you can only find it by looking it up via the search bar or checking the All Mail label.
  • Muted emails don’t go back to the Inbox if someone replies.

What happens when you Snooze an email in Gmail

  • Snooze hides an email for a specified time, and then it comes back on top of your Inbox.
