What is Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GSSMO)

You can check your Google Workspace mail using Outlook with Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook.
It’s better than IMAP/POP and allows you to sync not only your mail but calendars and contacts as well.
As an admin, you can enable or disable downloading and installing it via this setting.

How to download, install, and set up Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook step-by-step with images

Step 1

Go to https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gssmo and click Download GWSMO.

Step 2

Save the file to your computer.

Step 3

Double click the googleappssyncsetup.exe file to run it.

Step 4

You’ll see this pop-up telling you that Google Workspace Sync is downloading;

Installing;

And now it’s done!

The default install location is C:\Program Files\Google\Google Apps Sync.

Your browser will open so you can authenticate. If not, you’ll see this screen, so you can just click the account you want to sync.

Step 7

Don’t be scared by the massive list of required permissions. Click ALLOW to continue.

Step 8

If you don’t want to import data from other Outlook profiles, just click Create profile.

Or, to import data, check the box ‘Import data’ then select the existing profile, or select From a PST file.. to import data from a .pst file on your computer.

If you choose this option, you’ll need to locate and select the file.
